Gill Pryke

I have been working with glass in the Natal Midlands for nearly 20 years now. When I started Glass Cuttings my main line of work was lamp shades and windows, but along with my ever growing love for all things glass, this has broadened in recent years to include fused glass, dichroic and flame torch work.

I enjoy the challenge of working with glass, and the way that light interacts with glass to create moods and tone, whether they are striking and vibrant or soft and subtle. While I follow the traditional stained glass patterns to produce formal and traditional artwork, I also love the challenge of designing new, innovative and fun designs.

Many people want to add something to their homes that is not ‘store bought’. A special piece of work to reflect their personalities; what better way than using glass in a lampshade or a window that has personal meaning to the individual. That is my challenge – to create something different and beautiful for my customer.

Many of the products at GC I make myself but as the business has grown I have taught glass skills to others. Sibusisu has been making boxes for 15 years at GC and in an important member of staff. Dora too has been working many years making sun catchers and helping wherever needed. iThombi joined us 2 years ago as a temporary member to help us through Christmas and we value her so much she is still here! We are thrilled that our small business enables our staff to provide for their families.
